The movie started with Rudramadevi (Anushka), the princess of Kalinga, coming back after working for many years as a handmaiden to Jalaja (Tabu) in Delhi. While she served Jalaja, her brother Parimala Varma (Rana Daggubati), was serving as the viceroy of Andhra Pradesh. While Rudramadevi stayed in Delhi her brother ascended the throne. Jalaja felt that Rudramadevi was stronger than her male counterparts and she had taught them a lesson in the past. Jalaja warned Parimala not to overrule Rudramadevi after becoming king. She warned him to be careful, saying that Rudramadevi was not the same person. The movie then showed scenes from Rudramadevi's life in Delhi showing how she shaped herself into this powerful warrior and became a threat to Jalaja. Gajakesari (Prabhas), who was part of Pari's entourage, met her at the Delhi palace. She said that she never betrayed her country, but instead served Jalaja for ten years without complaint. After that she told Pari that her country needed him because there was a lot of unrest. She also said that he should take back the throne. Kalinga was under attack by the Delhi Sultanate, lead by Jalaja's son-in-law Mahmud Shah Sharqi. Pari, an untrained soldier, decided to go back to Kalinga with Rudramadevi. Gajakesari also decided to go with them. They took a boat to get to Kalinga, but it sank because of bad weather conditions. Rudramadevi managed to save Pari and Gajakesari while Jalaja managed to save all her other soldiers. Later she was seen in the battlefield leading her soldiers in victory. This film was released on 21 November 2015. It got 150 percent occupancy at the box office. The budget was Rs 100 crores(20 crore) which is made in two languages; Telugu and Hindi. The film opened up to an average collection of 130 crores, becoming one of the top-grossing Telugu movies of all time, occupying the third place (after "Simhasanam" and "Tholi Prema"). The movie has received generally positive reviews from critics. Rama Rao Jr praised it for giving a fresh feel to its predecessors and making each character stand out from one another.
